В мире насчитывается множество видов летучих мышей. Большинство этих ночных рукокрылых совершенно безвредно и питается исключительно насекомыми, но расслабляться не стоит, ведь среди них есть и вампиры, и даже огромные особи размером с лошадь, представляющие угрозу для искателей приключений.
Стаи летучих мышей-вампиров гнездятся где угодно (главное, чтобы там было укрытие от непогоды, света и хищников), предпочитая пещеры, деревья и узкие ущелья. Гигантские летучие мыши живут небольшими группами в глубоких пещерах, заброшенных шахтах или на чердаках покинутых домов. В глубинах Темноземья обитают ещё более крупные летучие мыши; на них летают верхом или даже приносят в жертву, чтобы затем поднять в качестве нежити и заставить охранять жуткие подземные города и государства.

Giant bats prefer to dwell in smaller numbers in deep caves, abandoned mines, or the attics of forsaken buildings. Even larger species dwell in the deeper regions of the Darklands, where they are often used as mounts or, at times, ritualistically slaughtered and then animated as specialized undead guardians of eerie underground cities and nations.
