Эльфы живут очень долго, а потому стараются не сближаться с теми, чьи жизни коротки. Те, кто поступает иначе, нередко надолго впадают в уныние, оставляющее неприязнь к циклу бесконечных смертей. Таких эльфов называют покинутыми.
