Ящерицы отличаются друг от друга внешним видом и способностями, но общий вид у них примерно одинаков: длинные хвосты, широкие зубастые пасти и четыре ноги. Некоторые ящерицы могут непродолжительное время ходить и на двух конечностях, но большинство передвигается исключительно на четырёх. Ниже описаны три самых распространённых и известных представителя гигантских рептилий.
Гигантские ящерицы часто используются в качестве сторожевых или ездовых животных и содержатся в качестве питомцев, но у
людоящеров подобное давно вошло в традицию. Родство этого народа и гигантских ящериц совершенно очевидно, и людоящеры любят драгоценных питомцев чуть ли не больше, чем остальные народы — собак или лошадей.
Описанные в этом разделе разновидности гигантских ящериц — самые распространённые в дикой природе, но ходят слухи и о куда более крупных рептилиях, в том числе и о 20-футовой мегалании. Эта исполинская разновидность варана способна проглатывать добычу целиком. Чуть менее опасными называют гигантских хамелеонов, хотя из-за способности полностью сливаться с окружением эти ящерицы весьма коварны и могут представлять едва ли не большую угрозу, чем огромные и шумные мегалании.

While a few species are capable of movement on two legs for short periods of time, most are strictly quadrupedal. The kinship these people share with giant lizards is unmistakable, valuing their companionship to an extent that equals or even exceeds that which other societies have for popular animal companions like dogs and horses.The three species of giant lizard presented here are but the most common of their kind encountered in the wilds. Stories of much larger lizards persist, including the 20-foot-long megalania, a truly enormous version of the giant monitor lizard capable of swallowing creatures whole. Less dangerous is the giant chameleon, although its ability to blend into its environs makes it a much more insidious and stealthy threat than the lumbering, mighty megalania.
